🦁 Your reputation needs receipts, and creators ran Cannes (but less than 1 in 15 deliver on *this*)

Edition 111.

5 brand bytes to inform & inspire you this week:

🦁 Cannes got creator-coded

From the people who braved the heat in the South of France, the common thread was clear: tech and software took up more space, and creators were the new VIPs. (The term ‘B2B creator’ got a lot of love, too.) One headline said Cannes was “dominated” by a $1.35T creator boom.

But if you read The Brand Bloc, this comes as no surprise. I’ve covered creator equity partnerships, their budding YouTube and media empires, and a “follow the money” recap on creator ad spend in recent months. The signs were signing.

Takeaway: Creators are no longer the side spend. They’re part of the main media budget. And, you’re not too late. 🫵

🧪 Add creator and stir?

Creators are getting Cannes-level respect. But new Kantar research saysfewer than 1 in 15 pieces of creator content delivers both audience engagement and ROI.” Translation: brands can’t just add a creator to the media mix and stir.

If the project brief turns the creator into an ad-bot, the audience feels it. Because yes, I’ve definitely watched a creator deliver lines over a brunch spread with perfectly staged Lactaid bottles. A clear #ad. 🐮

Takeaway: Creator content works best when the creator still sounds like the creator. Brands may need to learn to trust the voices they hire.

🧾 Your brand reputation needs receipts

Brand reputation used to look like a few glowing, 5-star reviews. Now it’s an ecosystem: prompts, agents, Reddit threads, reviews, affiliate sites, earned press and structured data.

AI engines look for consensus across the web.

For Spoken Flames, “best of” lists and affiliate placements have helped drive traffic and sales. Perhaps the robots like knowing we rank as a best-smelling candle on a discerning New York publication’s “best candle” list. 🤓

Takeaway: Expand where your brand earns trust, placement, and reviews. The robots need to read them to find, and recommend, you.

🛒 Grocery apps might take down the food bloggers

Food bloggers may feel the squeeze when the food-shopping platform builds its own recipe-showing, TikTok-style feed. Instacart announced a short-form, shoppable video feed, “Immersive Feed.”

It’s becoming a content layer around commerce in a way that goes way beyond just a grocery app with ads. So when the platform owns the cart, the content, and the direct path to conversion, where does that leave the blogger? And now that I write this, Pinterest? 🤔

Takeaway: The full marketing funnel is moving in-app.

🔁 No business model is forever

News publications. Course gurus. And now, potentially, food bloggers. Business models that once felt untouchable keep getting rewritten by technology, platforms, AI, and consumer behavior.

Meanwhile, most of the cool-kid creators don’t even have websites. Their social channels and link-in-bio templates are the web presence powering sometimes million+ dollar businesses.

If tracking brand, news, media, and digital culture has taught me anything, it’s this: no model lasts forever. Pivot with purpose, keep your eyes on the shifts, and you won’t be left behind.

Takeaway: Because you already read The Brand Bloc, you’re already thinking in the future with me. 😉
