Edition 113. 5 brand bytes to inform & inspire you this week: 🛋️ IKEA assembled the finalSpain vs. Argentina gave this home goods retailer an easy brand win. IKEA Canada’s “Assemble the World” campaign turned country flags into flat lays made from its own products. Furniture, textiles and decor all cleverly color-picked, and placed. Brilliant. Ownable. Instantly recognizable. No forced celebrity endorsement required. Takeaway: The best timely, cultural activations translate the moment (in this case, the World Cup final) through the brand’s own lens. 🍟 Legacy brands, familiar playsAh, the good ol’ celebrity brand play. Gap tapped Hailey Bieber. Bath & Body Works brought in Hilary Duff. And, as the World Cup winds down in just *minutes,* I can’t help but recall that David Beckham was every brand’s face this World Cup. From McDonald’s and Lay’s to Stella Artois. If fries, beer and potato chips were the secret to David’s noble career, someone alert the sports nutritionists. Takeaway: Brands with big pockets pull the play that’s all too easy: hire a celebrity, borrow cultural relevance, then convert it to sales and brand equity. Smaller brands can still win: mass UGC and influencer-led growth have driven social-first sales and even acquisitions. 📬 Email play: your pop-up needs a check-inWhat’s your current email opt-in rate, and when’s the last time you tested it? At a recent talk, I shared “always be testing.” But what to test, exactly? For your pop-up: test the offer, the teaser, the tone, emojis, casing and CTA button. Join now vs. Subscribe. Save 10% vs. Send me the code. Small words can move real numbers. Takeaway: If your email capture is always on, your testing muscle should be, too. 🤖 Your AI rep is ready to clock inMeta introduced Business Agent, an AI customer service rep for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. High-DM businesses with catalogs, appointments, service questions or repeat customer support needs. Takeaway: Agentic customer support is what’s next in the DMs. 📊 Prove it (even 62% of marketers struggle)“Half of marketers admit measuring creative effectiveness is ‘challenging,’” says one marketing report. And a global study of senior marketing leaders from Fortune 500 brands found that 62% of marketers struggle to prove the value and effectiveness of their creative. Even the largest brands are still under pressure to prove what works. Takeaway: Make the creative. Measure it. Double down on what earns the (sales) receipts. More brand bytes next Sunday at 5! |

Edition 112. 5 brand bytes to inform & inspire you this week: 🏡 The Meta ad catalog is moving in Meta, Spoken Flames Meta’s ad tools keep evolving. I’ve seen it firsthand. Its AI creative tools once (unprompted) turned a Spoken Flames lifestyle shot into multiple AI variations; my original model morphed into a new one drinking wine, taking a bath and moving through skyline scenes. Now, Meta is bringing that AI-generative power even closer to the point of purchase. Muse Image, the first...
Edition 111. 5 brand bytes to inform & inspire you this week: 🦁 Cannes got creator-coded Credit: The Wrap / @vertex.cgi From the people who braved the heat in the South of France, the common thread was clear: tech and software took up more space, and creators were the new VIPs. (The term ‘B2B creator’ got a lot of love, too.) One headline said Cannes was “dominated” by a $1.35T creator boom. But if you read The Brand Bloc, this comes as no surprise. I’ve covered creator equity partnerships,...
