💰 The economics of brand loyalty + selling the lifestyle ($27M in one day)

Edition 116.

5 brand bytes to inform & inspire:

🎒 School’s back. Brands back.

Poppi and Skims are just two brands capitalizing on the heading-back-to-college crowd with seasonal collections and paid ambassadorships. Skims released “The Campus Collection.” And Poppi hired 250 students across 150+ campuses after 11,000 applied. They’ll create content and keep tabs on college hot spots (think coffee shops and hangouts) where Poppi should pursue distribution.

Takeaway: They’re turning their customers into media and market intelligence.

💄 The economics of audience depth

Rhode did $27 million in DTC (direct-to-consumer) sales in one day and acquired 90,000 new customers. But the number we should care about more: 70%+ of sales came from *existing* customers. Acquisition gets headlines. But your current customer base can build real value.

So, remember: Build enough reason (and automations) for people to keep coming back.

👟 Every brand needs a lifestyle

Foot Locker sells sneakers, but the lifestyle is sneaker culture: drops, self-expression, music, sport and status. Equinox sells gym memberships, but positions discipline, performance and luxury as identity.

Products and services become more desirable when people can picture the life around them.

One saleswoman (with a dominant social presence), Shelby Sapp, does this digitally, too: Pink Porsches, Pilates, time freedom and wealth.

It’s a lifestyle that makes her promised transformation in-demand before she ever tells you her offer.

Mini challenge: What outcome or lifestyle you can depict for your audience?

💗 When lifestyle leaves the feed

Last week, I broke down one speaker’s practical AI tactics.

This week, I went deeper.

And unpacked the *full* Women & Wealth Conference (W&WC).

Every speaker. Every day. Every topic (from an acquisition, the magic of compounding, identity work, and digital products).

The pink Porsche saleswoman I described above, spent upward of $2.3 million producing the event.

Turning the *lifestyle* she feeds the algorithm (and hungry audiences) into a 3,000-person IRL experience.

My one (of five) takeaways: personal brands need structure to scale.

I explain that, and more: What Really Happened at the Women & Wealth Conference →

📦 Special delivery

While I was away at the conference, a family wellness brand sent me the before and after of its major rebrand.

I have their products in my hand 🧐

I’m unpacking the messaging, design decisions, packaging and what changed between versions.

So, next up: an honest unboxing and design audit, including what works, what I’d rethink and what you can apply to your own brand the next time you refresh, reposition or rebrand.

Edition 117. 5 brand plays worth knowing: 📺 YouTube moved the goalpost. Here’s how to get ahead. YouTube The Internet was abuzz this week. YouTube dropped new rules for the content game. Starting February 1, 2027, new creators will need *8,000* qualified watch hours or 20 million qualified Shorts views to unlock ad and Premium revenue sharing through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). That’s double today’s threshold. Existing YPP creators are grandfathered in. So, if you’re looking to get in,...

Edition 115. I interrupt our regular news-byte format to share 5 things “the top 0.1%” of users do differently with AI. But first, a little context. I just power-walked back to my hotel 🏃💨 A conference I’m attending wrapped less than an hour ago. These notes are freshly scribbled (and my heart rate is still up). My notes from the AI session. Yesterday, AI strategist Alicia Lyttle (known as “The Queen of AI” 👑) demo’d how she uses ChatGPT, Claude and her personal AI agent, Maximus, to: Build...

Edition 114. 5 brand bytes to inform & inspire: 🎵 Your Reel got its voice back Instagram Reels Ever got that Audio Unavailable error on IG? Well, “this one’s been a long time coming,” said IG head honcho, Adam Mosseri. Instagram now lets you replace the audio on old posts and carousels. “Keep every like, comment, and share it’s earned,” said Meta. The catch? New audio won’t give the post a fresh boost with the algorithm. But it *will* let your content evolve instead of expire. Takeaway: Your...
